Family Blessing Ceremonies
Please note that Spiritual Orkney only offer baby and child naming rituals which are incorporated into, and as part of, our family blessing ceremonies; these may be combined together with a handfasting
or legal wedding.
Our ceremonies are designed to bless your whole family; family blessing ceremonies may be especially suited to when children from previous relationships are joining into one new family, or when children are being adopted. Our family blessing rituals can include a naming / blessing for older children, babies, and babies yet to be born.
Naming your child is an important and joyous social occasion; one in which the newest member of a family is welcomed into the world, their community, and their family. However, many parents no longer wish to dedicate their children to a named religion; instead they prefer to allow their children to decide their own beliefs when they are mature enough to do so.
With Spiritual Orkney you can still have a ritual to mark this event, without needing to include any commitment to a named religion. Your naming ceremony can be independent of named religions, or can refer to them as much as you are comfortable with.
If you wish, your ritual can still include a formal naming and blessing of your child(ren), as well as an acknowledgment of the vital role of those who will promise to support the child(ren) through life - such as parents, guardians, grandparents, 'god-parents', and siblings.
There can also be a symbolic exchange of gifts. We make a range of suitable crafts.
Fees will be discussed and agreed with you depending on your requirements.
We also offer a photography service which can be added.
