Crafts
All items are hand-made to order with a thoughtful and spiritial attitude. You can specify the materials used and a colour-theme. All items are made with care and attention to detail.
Please note that we only keep a minimum of finished stock and we don't have a 'shop'; everything is made to order, with the commissioner in mind. This will atune these items to the recipient. This does mean that craft items can sometimes take a while to be made, especially in summer (when we are busy showing people around Orkney). Please be patient, although we will endeavour to deliver to a specific date if we can.
All materials are sourced ethically and in an environmentally friendly manner from Orkney, wherever possible. Many items are found during our beach combing sessions. We specialise in using driftwood in our craft items.
Take a piece of Orkney's spirituality away with you - let our peace and tranquility follow you home.

Copies of Pictish Charm Stones
We make copies of Pictish Charm Stones. The Picts were the Late Iron Age inhabitants of Orkney (and elsewhere in Scotland) and the Pictish period dates from before the Viking colonisation, at the beginning of the first millennium AD.
The Picts seem to have practised magic. At several Pictish sites, such as brochs, archaeologists have found pebbles, often quartz, with strange patterns and decorations painted on them with ground haematite mixed with a fixative. The usual interpretation is that these were 'charm stones' used as lucky talismans. There are several excellent examples in the Orkney Museum, Tankerness House, Kirkwall.
Our copies are based on originals that have been found in Orkney. The natural quartz pebbles were collected by us from the beach and have been hand painted with ground haematite mixed with eggs from free-range hens. The decoration is crude to match the originals and are of similar design.
Prices start from £10 plus P&P (at cost) to anywhere in the world. They can be supplied with or without a handstitched pouch or presentation box on request. Please order in advance and allow plenty of time for manufacture.

Handfasting Cords
A set of handmade, to your instructions, handfasting cords are included in our fees for all our relationship blessing and weddings ceremonies. However, by popular demand, we now also offer handmade handfasting cords as a stand-alone craft order to be posted to you.
The simplest is a triple plait - where one colour represents each of the people getting handfasted, and the third colour represents the relationship. But we can weave together four, five, six or more strands. The ends are handstitched and knotted - and the knots handstitched together - to ensure that your cords do not fray or unravel over the years.
We then add charms and ribbons and other lovelies (often from recycled costume jewellery) to your requirements. Below are some recent examples, together with details of some of the cord ends.

Please state your full requirements and allow at least a week for manufacture. Prices start at £35 plus P&P (at cost) to anywhere in the world.
Our handfasting cords are not toys. Please do not allow children or animals to play with them. The charms we use may contain traces of metals which may be toxic, such as lead.
